Joe Martone Bass

Lessons | Performing | Recording

I currently offer lessons on bass guitar and double bass (ie. upright bass, string bass, bull fiddle, doghouse, big violin, etc.).

Past students have successfully won All-State auditions, attended college for music, joined bands, and have become professional performers and teachers themselves.

Choosing the right teacher is important and often overlooked! A teacher should be:

  • knowledgeable and experienced

  • patient and kind

  • thoughtful and thorough

  • honest and straightforward

  • a mentor and a friend

In fact, it’s ok (and even preferred) to have multiple teachers. The teachers that I’ve had over the years each brought something different to the table according to their own experiences, specializations, and teaching styles.

In my lessons I meet my students where they’re at. Often I’ll start with what they already know and slowly introduce new concepts. Over time it’s important to take on new challenges and set realistic goals that lead to confidence and proficiency.

Common topics include reading music, playing with proper technique, tone production, rhythmic accuracy, and musicality. Students also learn how to care for their instruments which includes cleaning, changing strings, and performing simple setups to make their instruments easy to play and sounding great.
